The Danquah Institute (DI) is encouraging Ghanaians to intentionally commit to planting tree seedlings to ensure the sustainability of the exercise in Ghana.
The exercise was in line with the government’s Green Ghana Project, which aimed at planting 10 million tree seedlings this year.
Danquah Institute joined in the observance of the day by planting 13 tree seedlings at the South Labone Technical Institute in Accra on 9 June.
In addition to the tree planting exercise, the DI team donated toiletries and an undisclosed amount of cash to the school.
Speaking to Asaase News, the development economist at the University of Ghana and a fellow of the Danquah Institute, Dr Hayford Mensah Ayerakwa called on Ghanaians to be conscious about their environment.
“If we have an opportunity to correct some of the issues that we have all contributed to creating, let every Ghanaian, wherever you are, even if you live in a compound house that has no space, make it a decision that you are going to find a space somewhere and put a tree seedling there,” Ayerakwa said..
The Danquah Institute is a policy think tank which aims to improve the quality of the decision-making process and the efficaciousness of social, political and economic policies in Ghana and other African states.
